Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you confirm you meet this requirement.

2. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activities that occur under it. You must not share your account or allow others to access the Service through your credentials. Notify us immediately at support@selftapestudio.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

3. The Service

SelfTape Studio provides tools for actors to prepare, rehearse, record, and submit self-tape auditions. The Service does not constitute professional acting, career, legal, or financial advice. AI-generated voice readings and script analysis are provided for rehearsal and convenience purposes only. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service with reasonable notice. Where changes materially affect paid features, we will provide at least 30 days' notice.

4. Your Content

You retain full ownership of all content you upload or create using the Service, including scripts, recordings, video files, and audio files. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account. We do not claim any ownership of your content.

You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights to any content you upload, including scripts, music, or other third-party material. If you upload content you do not have the right to use, you are liable for any resulting claims — not us.

5. AI Processing of Content

Certain features of the Service (such as script analysis and text-to-speech) involve transmitting your script content to third-party AI service providers, currently Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI. By using these features, you consent to this processing. Script content sent to these providers is processed via their APIs under our data processing agreements and is not used to train their models. We minimise the duration for which raw script content is stored. You can read more about how these providers handle data in our Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Upload, record, or transmit any content that is sexually explicit, obscene, or pornographic.
• Upload, record, or transmit any content depicting violence, abuse, self-harm, or illegal activity.
• Upload any content that exploits, harms, or endangers minors in any way.
• Upload content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party.
• Use the sending feature to harass, threaten, or intimidate any recipient.
• Use the Service for any purpose other than preparing and submitting self-tape auditions.
• Use automated tools, bots, scrapers, or similar technology to access the Service.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, other users' accounts, or any connected infrastructure.
• Deliberately overload or interfere with the operation of the Service.
• Create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits or payment requirements.
• Redistribute, resell, sublicence, or commercially exploit any part of the Service.
• Use the sharing or delivery features as a general file-sharing or file-hosting service.
• Redistribute, commercially exploit, or misrepresent AI-generated audio (reader voices) as human speech.

We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms, without prior notice. Serious or repeated violations may result in permanent account closure.

7. Payments

Pay-Per-Audition

Certain features require a one-off payment per audition project to unlock delivery of your self-tape to a recipient. The price is displayed before purchase. Once payment is made and delivery of your self-tape has begun, the transaction is complete. By making a purchase, you acknowledge that the digital service is performed immediately upon payment and that you lose your right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 once delivery has been initiated.

Monthly Subscription

We may offer a monthly unlimited subscription tier. Subscriptions renew automatically at the start of each billing period unless you cancel. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to subscription features until the end of the period you have paid for. No pro-rata refunds are given for partial billing periods.

General

All prices are displayed inclusive of VAT where applicable. We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes will not affect transactions already completed or the current billing period of active subscriptions.

8. Delivery Disclaimer

When you send a self-tape through the Service, we deliver it to the email address you provide. We are not responsible for: incorrect or mistyped recipient email addresses; emails being filtered, blocked, or marked as spam by the recipient's email provider; whether the recipient opens, watches, or responds to your self-tape; or the outcome of any audition, casting decision, or professional engagement. SelfTape Studio is a delivery tool — we are not an agent, manager, or casting service.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, branding, and logo, is owned by SelfTape Studio. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from any part of the Service. The SelfTape Studio name and logo are our trademarks and may not be used without our written permission.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SelfTape Studio from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from: your use of the Service; content you upload, create, or transmit; your breach of these Terms; or your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property rights.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SelfTape Studio shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of opportunity, or business interruption.

Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law.

12. Availability and Warranties

We aim to provide a reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure operation. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, except as required by law. Recording quality depends on your device, camera, microphone, lighting, and internet connection — we do not guarantee broadcast-quality output.

We perform regular backups but do not guarantee against data loss. You are responsible for maintaining your own copies of any content that is important to you.

Our website may contain links to external sites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites.

13. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the breach. Upon termination, your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

If your account is terminated for breach of the Acceptable Use policy, you are not entitled to a refund for any unused subscription period or completed purchases.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

16. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notification at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
